The National @ Bocarski Dom, Zagreb

The National sold out their biggest venue in Croatia this time, after their two previous performances in front of 68 people in 2004 and a thousand people in 2007. I don’t think I ever witnessed such a connection between the audience and the band as I did yesterday.  They played a second encore, which I’m told is the first time on this tour.

That’s why it’s such a shame that the first song was unlit, and the rest of the first three were poorly executed light-wise. The lights were set up OK (judging by the opening performance by Phosphorescent), but a lot of back lighting and cross lighting took place with little to none front light. Also, the band obviously needed a little time to get up to speed and there was little happening on the stage on the first three, even though the rest of the performance was full of energy.
